As care for my orchids has settled into a pattern that, for the most part, is predictable and easy to manage, I’ve begun adding more plants of other varieties to my collection. I now have a Polka Dot Plant, two Thanksgiving Cacti, a Radiator Plant, a Chinese Money Tree, five Alocasias, a Mini-Monstera, two Monsteras, and an American Pitcher Plant.
I am now learning to care for more types of plants and though there are many commonalities, what they want and need can vary greatly. For example, can this plant live in PON (a volcanic rock substrate)? How do I propagate these plants? How do I deal with the inevitable pests? So far, knock on wood, the only pests we’ve had have been fungus gnat. What type of food/fertilizer do I want to use? It’s a lot to think about.
So where do I even begin? YouTube. There are many sources of good plant care information and I find YouTube to be the most helpful. These are my absolute favorites:
These channels contain a lot of practical information and tutorials about how to care for my plants. Once in a while, I’ll check out other channels, but I always end up back at one of my favorites. My goal with this site is to post the problems that I run into and what I learn from/about those problems. I also hope I can help someone else who might run into a similar problem.
