Today when I went to check on Hootie Pie it was obvious there was nothing I could do to save her. Her leaves were all dry and yellowing. The velamen of her final root slid off when I touched it. It was time to say goodbye.
The lesson I learned from Hootie Pie is that I need to understand what a plant needs before I buy it. When I bought her, I made the mistake of thinking all orchids are the same. But a Vanda is not the same as a Phalaenopsis. I will try to avoid that mistake in the future. This means that the Monstera Thai Constellation that I really want will not be purchased until everything I currently have is thriving.
