Hootie Pie’s lower leaves were beginning to wrinkle and some of her roots were becoming soft and mushy; both signs of dehydration due to a failing root system. In retrospect, At that time, all of my orchids were on 24 hours wet, followed by 6 days dry. I now know that Vandas need a lot of air and frequent water. In the wild, they live in humid, tropical areas where they start each day with heavy dew covering their leaves and roots and frequent showers most days. Between these natural waterings, moist tropical winds blow, drying off water that hasn’t been absorbed by the plant. At the time, I didn’t know any of this.
