About Me and My Planty Journey

Over the past few years, my brown thumb has remarkably transformed into a green thumb. I’ve discovered that I CAN grow plants! Thank you to Robyn Mead for gifting me my first successful plant, a Polkadot Plant. I’d also like to thank Eric Levy for the gift of two beautiful orchids. After receiving the orchids, I dove deep into a rabbit hole of learning how to care for them. Once I felt I had a handle on care, I purchased even more.

Around that time, my niece began her journey with plants. As I assisted her in researching and caring for them, I fell in love with tropical plants. The more she and I learned, the deeper our love for plants grew! My niece tends to buy larger, mature plants. However, I find myself captivated by the idea of nurturing juvenile plants to maturity, and it’s much more economical. In recent months, we’ve also been exploring propagation, making it easier to share our plant treasures. This brings me to today, where I am filled with awe at the incredible ways plants grow.

During my “orchid days,” I took numerous photos to document their growth, but they only captured part of the journey. As my collection expanded, it became challenging to keep track of my methods—should I use orchid media or water culture? Dry days versus wet days, and the various supplements and fertilizers? Should I use tap, distilled, or filtered water? Initially, I tried tracking everything on my phone with the Notes app, but it lacked photo capabilities. I then switched to a Journal app, which allowed me to incorporate images, but it still fell short. One day, I remembered WordPress and loved the idea of formatting my entries to my liking. I also appreciated the potential to share my experiences with others, leading to the creation of myPlants.blog.
